Save and Progress Recovery Notes

Published · Updated

This is a draft troubleshooting note, not a verified official recovery procedure. The linked community article reports that over the hill may store save data under the Windows Documents path and under an alternate LocalLow AppData path. Those locations can vary with permissions, OneDrive configuration and game updates.

Before moving or replacing any file, copy the entire save folder to a separate backup location. Note the file dates and avoid overwriting a newer save with an older backup.

The community article suggests checking three common causes:

  1. Saves existing in an alternate AppData or LocalLow folder instead of the active Documents folder.
  2. OneDrive or controlled-folder protection blocking writes to the Documents directory.
  3. Steam Cloud conflicts after a dropped connection or game update.

For Steam Cloud conflicts, compare the timestamps offered by Steam before choosing a version. If the game continues to reset progress, use Steam's file-integrity check after making a manual backup. Do not delete save files during this process.

This page remains noindexed until the save-folder behavior is confirmed against the current Steam build and official support documentation. The community source also promotes a third-party networking tool; this site does not recommend or endorse that tool.
